The same set of people that killed Abiola were the ones that killed Abacha | Major Al-Mustapha makes shocking revelations

Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, a former Chief Security Officer to the late Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, said on Monday, that he would make some shocking and detailed revelations in his new book, Mustapha’s Memoirs, which is still a work in progress.
He said this while addressing journalists in Lagos – where he spoke about his ordeal in detention, the death of the winner of June 12, 1993 presidential election, MKO Abiola and allegations made against him by former President, Olusegun Obasanjo.
Here are 5 things we learned from the interview:

Both Abiola and Abacha were played
“For instance, when Chief MKO Abiola was in prison, many notable Nigerians visited him. They will visit him in the morning, and when they come back to the Villa in the evening to see Abacha, they would say a different thing entirely. These people would visit Abiola and come back to tell government a different thing about him. Major Hamza Al-Mustapha “These same people would still go and tell Abiola a different thing about government.”

Al-Mustapha has video evidence of Abiola’s visitors
“Unknown to these notable Nigerians, particularly notable Yoruba personalities, who visited Abiola, their visits were recorded on video. I did the video recording without their knowledge. They are on video. The agencies of government have these videos evidence. These same people told MKO Abiola never to accept any compromise or negotiations. They advised him never to come back home without his mandate. All these things are on video.

Oba Tejuosho was honourable and truthful to Abiola
“Of all the Yoruba leaders, only Oba Tejuosho told MKO Abiola the truth: to accept the conditional bail and go home. “Only Oba Tejuosho told MKO Abiola that Abacha was his friend, urging him to reconcile with Abacha who was ready for reconciliation. It was Oba Tejuosho who told MKO Abiola that he still had the goodwill and would win if he re-contests after Abacha.

Same thing killed Abiola and Abacha
“What killed Abacha is what killed MKO Abiola. But I would reveal that after my court case, still at the Supreme Court. I would publish a book which has three volumes— the Mustapha’s Memoirs, which will tell what happened under Abacha and how he died.”

‘Obasanjo lied?’
“Nobody contracted me to catch 1,000 mosquitoes under the Jonathan administration, let alone human beings. I am Al-Mustapha. I have my background away from the propaganda peddled by the likes of Obasanjo.”
“Obasanjo has had his day. I am doing my investigation and I have discovered so many things as to what made him (Obasanjo) make such allegation. I have it. I will release it very soon and that is why I have challenged him to an open debate. Obasanjo is my senior in the force; he was a former Military Head of State, but when issues of law and rights of man are being discussed, definitely equality comes to the fore.”
“You cannot put an allegation against your junior because you are a senior, and you believe the junior would keep quiet. No, I would not. That would amount to ignorance. I am not ignorant about our laws. I challenge Obasanjo to an open debate so that he can substantiate his allegations before the whole world; but he is yet to oblige the challenge.”
“Thank God a new government is here today, where he (Obasanjo) can bring up the issue, requesting it to investigate and, if there is any contract between Jonathan and I to catch one single mosquito, I want to say that I am guilty and want to be tried.”

7 Signs She Will Be Good In Bed

black-couple-at-bar

Picture this: You are with a girl on a date and of course, you are thinking of what it would be like when you finally get her into bed. Only one problem, you wonder if she would be as good as you imagine.

Well, while nothing is 100 percent certain, there are a few things you can look out for that points to a potentially great lay.

1. Willing To Experiment: Does she sound like she loves to experiment with something new when the chance presents itself? Does she seem eager to try something you are eating even though she tells you she has never had it before? A woman excited about new things is one that is willing to get out of her comfort zone in bed. It tells you that she is open-minded and might even have a few new tricks up her sleeves for you.

2. Good Dancer: If you would like to know how she moves, then give her an opportunity to bust some moves. Take her out to a club, party, or anywhere she would get the chance to show off her dance skills.  The way she moves to the music will give you an idea how she would be in bed. Sultry and seductive dance moves are indicative of a woman who knows how to use her body in a sensual way.

3. Very Handsy: A woman who is not shy to get her hands on you and physically connect with you is one that understand the importance of touch in bed. She does not have any problems being close to you and might be looking forward to getting even closer.

4.The Walk: You know when a gorgeous girl enters a room in a seductive walk that makes all the men instantly think about taking her to bed? Yeah, a woman who possesses that kind of walk surely knows what her body is capable of and how to use it.

5. Good Kisser: Studies have shown that if you feel an intense connection with someone when you kiss, it is highly likely that that chemistry will translate into the bedroom.

6. She Is Older: It is a known fact that older women are usually more confident in their own skin and know what the want in bed. While women in their 20s are so focused on self image and might be dealing with low self esteem, older women are way past that and are always willing to enjoy the ride. They are not shy to tell you what they want and  are very outspoken about their desires.

7. Knows What She Wants: This is not just a characteristic for older women.  A woman can be confident in herself regardless of her age. If she is able to make fast decisions on where you guys hang out or what movies to see, instead of leaving all decisions to you and just tagging along, she will most likely make it worth your while in the bedroom too.

Girl asks mum what her reaction will be if she fell into a gorilla pen, mum's response is hilarious!!!

In the wake of the rather unfortunate killing of Harambe, the Western lowland gorilla put down at a Cincinnati zoo after a 4 year old boy fell into the animal's enclosure, there have been debates on the actions of the zoo officials.

This lady asked her mother what she would do if her and her brother fell into a gorilla pen. What the mum replies is downright hilarious.

Skales’ Manager Accused of Fraud of Over N13 Million by Baseline Records | She Responds

Osagie-Osarenkhoe-1-600x392

Osagie Osarenkhoe, also known as This Metal Chic, has been accused of fraud by Baseline Records, home to Skales and Aramide.

Osagie, currently managing Skales, has been accused by the record label of stealing the sum of N13,374,000 in the past 12 months. The record label has released a length petition addressed to the Inspector General of Police and right now Osagie is at the Police Station as they try to sort things out.
The petition reads in part:
On the 11th of July, 2014 the company entered into an Artiste and Record Company Multiple Right Agreement (the “Contract”) between itself and Raoul Njeng Njeng (also known as Skales) for the provision by Skales of exclusive recording services to the Company for a period of 5 (five) years.
Under the terms of the Contract, Skales assigned to the company all copyright and other rights or interests throughout the world in all sound recordings made by Skales prior to or during the term of the Contract. The Contract further provided that the Company shall be entitled to 70% (seventy percent) of the gross receipts received by Skales from performance and tours and brand endorsements during the term of the Contract.
Skales introduced Teresa Osagioduwa Osarenkhoe to the Company as his manager and stated her duties to include inter alia tour bookings, strategy and promotion. In order to avoid a situation where accounts will be disputed, the Company set in place a procedure for the remittance of monies received from performances, tours and brand endorsements involving Skales. The procedure implemented at the beginning of the Contract was the payment of all monies received in pursuance of performances and endorsements into the Baseline account, whereupon the 30% due to Skales would be transferred to his (Skales’) account after the deduction of expenses. The above procedure was implemented at the beginning of the Contract and monies were remitted in the manner stated above. The Company however noticed that rather than remit monies to the Company account as agreed, Teresa Osagioduwa Osarenkhoe falsely dictated to event promoters that monies were to be paid to her personal accounts.
In all the circumstances where monies were paid to Teresa Osagioduwa Osarenkhoe’s personal accounts, these monies were never repaid to the Company.
The Company noticed that although Skales was listed as performing at various concerts, shows, tours and other events, none of the monies received from these events was remitted to the Company. In this regard, the Company invited Skales and his manager Teresa Osagioduwa Osarenkhoe to various meetings seeking an account and a reconciliation. At these meetings, both Skales and his manager Teresa Osagioduwa Osarenkhoe insisted that the events in question were not paid events and as such there were no monies to remit. These dubious activities continued for a period of 12 (twelve) months wherein the Company was fraudulently deprived of its legitimate earnings by the said Teresa Osagioduwa Osarenkhoe as payments made for performances were paid directly into her account in violation of the procedure set up for payments at the beginning of the Contract. The Company in March of 2016 decided to catalogue some of the paid shows, performances, concerts and tours wherein Skales performed and the monies were fraudulently converted for personal use by the said Teresa Osagioduwa Osarenkhoe.
By the Company’s estimation, from the aforementioned events, Teresa Osagioduwa Osarenkhoe has fraudulently converted the sum of N7,474,000 from this brief period without accounting to the Company or making payments first into the Company’s accounts as stipulated in the Contract. This is without factoring all the other performances, tours and shows where no remittance was made from the period January 2015 to April 2016.
In order to properly document this fraud and catch Teresa Osagioduwa Osarenkhoe in the act of theft, the Company created an email address, and sent an email to Teresa Osagioduwa Osarenkhoe requesting the performance of Skales at an event in California on the 2nd June, 2016. In the email communication, Teresa Osagioduwa Osarenkhoe requested the sum of $5,000 (five thousand US dollars) for the performance as well as one business class ticket, one economy class ticket and two hotel rooms in a 4-star hotel. (please find enclosed herewith the email communication between Skales and Femi George with respect to the said performance) On 18th May, 2016 the first tranche of $2,500 (two thousand five hundred US dollars) representing 50% (fifty percent) of the performance fee demanded by Teresa Osagioduwa Osarenkhoe was wired.
The Company in 2015 entered into an agreement with Upfront and Personal, for the engagement of Skales to appear in TV commercials, billboards websites and other social media on behalf of MTN Pulse. As per the terms of the agreement, Upfront and Personal was to pay to the Company the sum of N5,000,000 (five million naira) in two tranches of N2,500,000 (two million five hundred thousand naira each). The said Teresa Osagioduwa Osarenkhoe representing that she was authorized by the Company obtained the sum of N5,000,000 (five million naira) due to the Company without being so authorized. Teresa Osagioduwa Osarenkhoe has failed after repeated demands to repay the said N5,000,000 (five million naira) fraudulently obtained.
Given the above circumstances, the Company believes that a fraud has been committed against it by Teresa Osagioduwa Osarenkhoe. The Company hereby appeals to your good office to investigate this matter in the interest of fairness and justice.
Osagie has also spoken out about the ongoing case via Twitter:

According to Wakil, the airport would be for ticketing as well as for cargo and would be located in Damaturu, the state capital.

He noted that after the completion, the airport would be the first of its kind in the North, because there is no cargo airport in the whole of Northern Nigeria.

(Pics +Videos) Vice President Meets With Placard Carrying Girl Lilian Chinyere Douglas-Ezeugo

Here is the story of the placard carrying girl, as narrated in her own words:

''My name is Lilian Chinyere Douglas-Ezeugo. I was born Dec. 3rd, 1993.
I carried the placard at Ikoyi-Lekki bridge.
Mrs Owen was one of the people who called me. She introduced  me to Mr Tony Elumelu. In the meeting, he asked me why i did what i did.  I told him that I didn't want to be among unemployed graduates and that was all. Though people started rumoring he gave me a job.

Then Forte Oil called for a test too.

Following that, I got an invite for a media forum with the Vice President. At the forum, we were given the opportunity to ask one question each. When it got to my turn, I asked him what plans the federal government have in preparing the teenagers and youth to overcome challenges of adulthood and what happens to youths without a purposeful mindset and are not mentally challenged, also those who are but do not have the support.

I want people to understand that i did what i did to voice out. And that if nothing is done, it will get to a point where the youths will be involved in a violent protest.

I would like 'Leadership and Purpose' to to be a module in schools but since it is not, i would like to organize sections with schools ranging from primary to university level introducing them to mind development courses, teaching them about leadership development, giving them a purposeful mindset that would make them meet their full potential.

Imagine if school children and youths are developed socially, ethically, emotionally, physically and have cognitive competencies, they would be able to analyse their weakness and strength, set vocational goals, have self esteem, confidence, motivation and participate in community life, effect a positive change and serve as role models.

My Facebook name is Douglas Ezeugo Lilian. Just incase you need that''.

The Ultimate Guide To Shopping In Lagos Island Market AKA Balogun Market

Oh the famous and infamous Lagos Island market, Most people living in Lagos have a relationship with this market whether they like it or not .This market is located in the heart of Lagos Island, it’s a central place for shopping, links both the mainland via Eko bridge and the Island via Onikan ring road. It’s a place where you can find absolutely anything. From the most expensive jewellery to the cheapest fabric, Lagos market got you. It’s also popularly known as Balogun.

So here is the ultimate guide in 11 points!

1. GO EARLY : To avoid traffic, parking hustle and get good prices, go early.  Lagos is synonymous to traffic, you don’t want to be stuck on CMS road for hours especially if you are driving. The best time to be there is on a weekend by 9am. Lagos Island is home to many corporate offices, so there is less traffic on Saturdays. You also want to park your car if driving in a designated car park which are few. Going early would help you secure a good spot. Moreover, I’ve realised majority of the sellers in the market are Yorubas. The Yoruba culture has this belief of  morning sales dictates the course of the day. i.e. The first customers determine if the day would be productive or futile, hence majority of the vendors are rather warm to you around that time.

2. DON’T DRIVE IF YOU CAN: Most times when I’m buying just a few items I take public transport. I found that it’s more convenient and cheaper from my home than driving. I simply take one BRT bus to CMS and walk round the market. The hustle is just too much over there for me to worry about leaving my car keys with the ‘local Valets’. (In some car parks you have to leave your keys with someone there. So incase a car wants to drive out while you’re away, you won’t be obstructing).

3. CARRY CASH: I know it’s a cashless era but trust me a lot of vendors at Lagos market don’t like P.O.S transactions. Some of them are not enlightened so they have fears of being scammed. Even though there are lots of ATM’s in the market don’t rely on them. The queues are always very long and they run out of cash quickly. You don’t want a scenario when after all the journey you can’t pay for your items.  The best advice is to withdraw sufficient cash before hand from home and make your way to the market.

4. BE SECURITY CONSCIOUS: The market is a very rowdy one, people are often brushing each  other just to get by. A lot of pick pockets roam the market too, so you want to be extra vigilant. Don’t keep your phone in your back pockets, make sure your hand bag/ purse is right in front of you not behind you swinging away. I’ve seen instances where bags were sliced with knives from underneath and the carrier didn’t realise till they got to their destination. You also don’t want to act clueless  and lost, if not the street urchins will try to take advantage of your naive-ness. E.g. Make you pay N1,000 for a parking space of N300.

5. WEAR LITTLE OR NO MAKEUP: I personally go with the later. The weather in Nigeria on its own is rather humid, let alone in a tight market will lots of buildings that will attract more heat. I usually have on sunglasses and a handkerchief/ face towel in my bag, which is better than tissue paper. I use this to wipe my face when sweating. Now imagine having a full face beat under these conditions, just don’t bother with makeup.

6. WEAR COMFORTABLE CLOTHES & SHOES: If you have sneakers/sandals wear them. On two occasions my slippers had cut. Someone stepped on me and one side came off, I had to buy another one while limping in the market. I figured it’s better to wear sneakers or tightly fitted sandals. For clothing, you want to wear something comfortable, I always wear a bubu/maxi dress. I don’t want pockets neither do I want people to touch me inappropriately because I’m wearing shorts.  Moreso, the roamers there can be very vulgar and would harass you if you’re ‘scantily clad’.

7. BARGAIN AND SPEAK THE VENDOR’S LANGUAGE IF YOU CAN: I don’t know why this works but it works. Anytime I visit a shop and I start to speak english they just give me a high price, but the moment I start to speak pidgin or Yoruba they automatically seem more open to me haggling. So I advice not to put on your best queen’s english and come down to ‘Lagos lingua’. Whatever item you inquire about make sure you haggle even if it’s just N100 they remove from it, just try. Well with the exception of staple items like water/food, don’t haggle if you don’t want to be cursed out LOL.

8. DON’T UNDER-RATE THE SHOP OWNERS: It’s very common for people to look down on vendors because of the location of their store. You’d be amazed these people have made a fortune from doing business there. Many of them have children in Ivy-league universities across the globe and are their bank’s high-profile clients. I personally have an aunt who has raised her four children from having a shop in Lagos market. She travels to any country she wishes at her time and is a rather wealthy woman, but you wouldn’t know if she didn’t say. She doesn’t glam up to her store and she usually attends to her customers like they were gods.

9. AVOID IMPULSE BUYING : During the month I pen down my to-buy list for the market,  Lagos market is home to many things, from authentic to down right bad quality a.k.a kpanti. I used to fall victim of unnecessary purchases, especially to those fancy jewellery stalls. Everything just looks so attractive and affordable. But I’ve learnt financial discipline and money saved is money saved no matter how little. It’s best to have a list or a mental note of the items you want and stick with it. I often regret those impulse purchases on the long run.

10. DON’T BE FEISTY WITH VENDORS/ STREET URCHINS: To avoid being tongue lashed or embarrassed, be as polite yet as firm as possible. I mentioned earlier that some of the  people there are rather vulgar and would not hesitate to insult. Even when they are literally pulling you to come into their stalls or grabbing your arm, just ignore them or politely tell them that’s not the item you’re looking for. Trust me, Gragra never works. The last time I went with a friend she told the guy pulling her arm “Don’t touch me”! in the harshest tone, If you see the way this man went ballistic. I just told her to walk away quickly.

11. HAVE EXTRA CHANGE FOR STREET BITES: I’m a foodie and more than often I’m always feeling  peckish. I make sure I reserve some change for my favorites… Which are boli(roasted plantain), puff puff, Fan yogurt and Lacasera. The puff puff sold there is on another level, forget the ones you make at home, it just tastes sweeter on the street. There are always people hawking cold drinks so be sure to have adequate change.

And that’s all!  Can you relate with any of the above? Do feel free to share your personal market experiences and tips! Would love to hear from you.

Heartbreaking story of Nigerian woman whose kidney was illegally harvested in Italy

Osaseme buttock

Hers is one of the many pathetic stories from Nigerians in the Diaspora. And it is a story that will bring tears to many eyes.
Ms Julie Osamese felt a little feverish when she walked into the Ospedale Maria Vittoria Cibrario Hospital in Turin, Italy sometime in November 2008. Her only complaint was a slight increase in body temperature, and that she explained to the doctor who attended to her. Tests were conducted, following which she was given medication to use and instructed to return for evaluation after a week.
But her second visit to the hospital could be described as the greatest mistake of her life. For this Nigerian lady, it marked the beginning of years of woe. It was the beginning of years of trauma during which she was moved to six other hospitals. She eventually ended up in a mental home, despite being mentally stable. Some of the hospitals Osamese was taken to include Amedeo Di Savoia Svizzerra and Ospedale San Giovanni Bossco.

According to the chairperson of the House of Representatives Committee on Diaspora Affairs, Rita Orji, who recently led other members of the committee to investigate Osamese’s disheartening story, the woman, in her 30s and a legal immigrant in Italy, was, on her follow-up visit to the Ospedale Maria Vittoria Cibrario hospital, given drugs which made her dizzy. It was gathered that as she complained to the medical personnel who attended to her, she was tied to the bed despite her protests. By the time she woke up, part of her buttocks had allegedly been chopped off, and her kidney tampered with. That was how she lost control of her bladder, leading to uncontrollable urination, it was gathered.

Narrating the inhuman treatment meted out to Osamese, the lawmaker told SUN News thus:

“After taking the drugs for one week, she came back to report how she was feeling. On that day, she was asked if she came to the hospital alone, and she said, ‘yes’ innocently without knowing the reason why that question was put across to her. That marked, the beginning of her paralysis. She was asked to lie down that they were going to give her some medication. Within two, three minutes, she was approached with a mixture in a cup and she drank it, believing that it was for the fever she complained of. But she became dizzy and she was telling them how she felt. But they said there was no problem.
“Suddenly, the team of doctors came around and tied her legs and her hands on the bed and she started shouting, ‘why are you tying me’? She said one of the doctors responded that she could shout at the top of her voice, but that nobody would know what was being done. That was how they faced her down and gave her injection on her base bone. After the injection, she passed out. When she finally regained consciousness, she saw that the lower part of the buttocks on both sides had been chopped off, to the extent that the bones  in her buttocks had cracked and she saw the pieces of the bones. Also her bladder was disengaged from the source with urine pouring out uncontrollably. In fact, she woke up on a catheter and a big plaster by the region of her kidney.
“They started moving Madam Julie from one hospital to the other. It is the norm that when you are being transferred to any hospital, the ambulance in which a patient is transferred goes with a medical report. But in Julie’s case, nothing like that was done. They dumped her into one ambulance to drop her in one home or the other without attaching her medical history. They kept her, thinking she would die. At a stage, she was only living on prayers. They finally dropped her at the seventh medical Centre. During our investigations, I asked what the reasons for moving her from one place to the other were. There is no answer to that. What they were telling us is that she is mentally Ill. She is diabetic. But I want to tell you that all these stories are unfounded. No one has the confirmation of these health conditions they told us she suffers from based on medical ground.
“On our arrival at that place, we conducted a test and found that Julie is not diabetic. The scan that was carried out on her, and we have the result, shows that her kidney was tampered with. This is what the woman has been shouting about for the past eight years, and nobody seems to believe her. Today it is Julie, tomorrow I don’t know who it will be. On their final stop, they dumped her in a mental home, a woman of thirty something years, dumped in a mental home that harbours old men and women that are demented.”
Also corroborating Orji’s story, another member of the committee who represents Itu/Ibiono Ibom federal constituency, Henry Okon -Archibong, a medical doctor, explained that Osamese can never walk again, no thanks to the havoc inflicted on her.
“From what happened, they might have tried to give her anaesthesia before they harvested the kidney. In doing that, they damaged the lumber and sacred nerves. So, there is no way Julie can walk again. Julie has been paralysed and the issue of walking has nothing to do with what we are calling for. She has to be compensated, the medical doctors that participated in what led to her current situation have to be dealt with as the law permits,” he said.

Indeed, the committee is demanding that the Italian government investigate Osamese’s case with a view to fishing out the medical personnel whose highly unprofessional conduct led to the loss of one of her kidneys and her permanent confinement to a wheelchair. The lawmakers are also asking for the highest form of compensation and a complete rehabilitation of the mother of one, who they said have been the subject of several protests by the Nigerian community in Italy.

Orji declared: “The action that will satisfy us as lawmakers starts from the whole world condemning the injustice meted out to an innocent person. We are saying that there should be a holistic compensation and a new medical team should conduct an analysis of Madam Julie’s situation and proffer the best way to get her life back on track. She has lost hope on the medical doctors around her. So, I will advise that they have to look for another medical team that are not from Turin to carry out this job.”
The lawmakers also called on the minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama to investigate the role of the staff of the Nigerian High Commission in Italy, whom they accused of negligence. “You can’t believe that when the relations of this lady were at the hospital, a woman named Deborah and another man called Ifeanyi, the woman told them what she had been put through. She gave them documents to back her claims and told these relatives of hers to run to the Nigerian High Commission in Rome, to inform them of what happened. Those documents were given to one Madam Martina and Mr. Folorunsho who are staff of the commission. But no one asked after her (Osamese) since 2009.

They never went to visit her. They didn’t even keep the documents handed over to them. When we demanded for them, they denied ever receiving the documents. For us, the recklessness of the Nigeria High Commission in Italy as at then, caused the terrible situation we see. Assuming they intervened on time, the situation of this woman will not be this bad,” Orji added.

So Sad,what do we do when the ones that are supposed to help save lives are the ones jeopardizing it ?
Rare Occurence! Woman Gives Birth To Identical Triplets

Rare Occurence! Woman Gives Birth To Identical Triplets

To be told she was expecting triplets was a big enough shock for any mother-to-be. Now thriving at home after spending six weeks in intensive care, little Roman, Rocco and Rohan had another surprise in store for Becki-Jo Allen, however.
After being told how similar they looked by other mums, she sent off samples of DNA to be tested – and she has now been told that against odds of up to an incredible 200 million to one, the naturally conceived trio are identical.

According to their 23-year-old mother, ‘When they were newborns it was quite hard to tell which one was which, but I never got them mixed up myself.’

‘They’ve all got dark birthmarks between their eyebrows, but Roman’s is slightly darker than the others’, and Rohan has got a birthmark on his leg as well.

‘When they were in the hospital, the doctors said they were non-identical, but since they came home lots of people have said they can’t tell them apart.’

According to the Multiple Births Foundation, the only way to establish for certain whether twins or triplets are identical – known as zygosity determination – is usually DNA testing.

After consulting them, Miss Allen took cheek swabs from Roman, Rocco and Rohan and sent them off to a laboratory to be analysed – and earlier this month received the news that they are genetically identical.

They are the youngest of what is thought to be only a handful of naturally conceived sets of identical triplets in the UK.

''GUESS WHO STOPPED A RAPE LAST NIGHT?! THESE GALS!

Ok, so we're still recovering from the events, but we wanted to tell the story. And if it seems like the photo is making light of a heavy situation, it's because we know FB prioritizes pics AND we needed to get your attention. This is no joking matter.

Monica, Marla, and I were at Fig at the Fairmont for their delicious happy hour ("Fig at 5." Treat yourself). I was going on about something and saw Monica staring behind and making a funny face. I stopped. "What's going on?" After a few second she said "That guy just put something in her drink."

Now, Fig is a nice restaurant. We were enjoying our charcuterie platter and some fancy cheeses. That type of place. They had a bottle of wine they were splitting. It seemed like a first or second or third date. After a few "Oh god. What do we do"s, I got up to find her in the bathroom to tell her. Warn her. Tell her to get up and leave this creep. Make him drink it. Something.

So, after feeling awkward hanging out by the sinks in the bathroom til she was done, I approached. "Hey! Um, this is kind of weird, but, uh, we saw the guy you were with put something in your drink."

"Oh My God." She said. Shocked, kind of numb, so I babbled "Yeah, my girlfriend said she saw him put something in your drink and we had to say something. Woman to woman...you know. We had to say something. How well do you know that guy?" I was expecting to hear "We just met," but I got:

"He's one of my best friends."

Shit. Yeah. One of her best friends. They had known each other for a year and a half. They worked together.

I continued to talk for a bit and said she could ask "the one with the short blond hair" any questions since she was the one who saw it and then left her to return to the table.

When I got back, Marla was talking to the server about what happened. Seeing if he or the manager could do anything. Monica filled us in on more of what she saw.

"He pulled her glass toward him, kind of awkwardly, then he took out a little black vial. He opened it up and dropped something in. Then he tried to play it cool, like checking his phone and hiding the vial in his hand and then trying to bring it back down slyly." He apparently saw Monica looking. Marla said she was just going to lean over to Monica and say "that guy is acting really creepy" when she saw Monica already looking. Witnessing.

It only took a minute for the manager to walk to their table, see if everything was ok, allowed the girl to order a sparkling water. All super cool. He stopped by our table and said he couldn't do much because he didn't see it. But he did let security know.

The poor woman had to sit through 40 more minutes, sitting across from "one of her best friends" knowing that he was trying to drug her. Marla noticed him several times chinking his glass to hers to get her to drink. She played it cool. Mostly, I believed, just stunned. The staff wanted to jump in and dump the glass, dump him, do something! I was going through fantasies of walking up and demanding he drink the tainted glass of wine. Eventually, they finished up dinner. There was a delay getting their bill "The computer is down" is what the waiter kept saying to him. Then, in walks Santa Monica PD. They say "Come with us" and he doesn't protest. Doesn't ask why. Doesn't seem surprised.

The head of security came by and said that because we notified them immediately, they were able to go back and review the footage from the security camera.

They got him on tape. They had proof of him drugging this girl. They took the glass away as evidence. They kept us for statements. We asked the girl if she had a ride home. "My car is at his place. In his building. We came together." Part of a plan. We were blown away. She was still in shock.

But it wasn't over.

From every table In our section, from through out the restaurant, people came by to thank us for taking action.

"It happened to my sister...I'm glad I was there to take her home."

"It happened to my roommate at a producer's party. He's still messed up from it."

"It happened to me. At a backyard barbecue."

"It happened to me. At a bar I worked at."

"Some Heroes don't wear capes. Thank you. It happened to me. Thank you."

"Fuck yeah you guys! You fuckin rock!"

At least 10 stories of being personally affected by someone like this. Something like this. Those were only the ones who knew what went down. I am sure there were tons more stories through out the restaurant and the hotel.

We kept thanking the manager for taking action. We are well aware how many people would not have taken what we said seriously. Not taken action. Said their hands were tied.

So thank you, everyone at Fig and Fairmont in Santa Monica for keeping this guy from harming someone.

And thank you in advance to everyone who sees this and shares this and reminds each other that yes, you SHOULD say something. Even if it's awkward or weird or just uncertain if anything can be done.

Know that YOU did something. And that it helped''.
