T.B. Joshua, Others To Be Arraigned On Monday Over Death Of 116 Persons

 TB-JOSHUA

The Lagos State Government has concluded plans to arraign Pastor TB Joshua and other trustees of ‎Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) won Monday, November 30, 2015, before a Lagos State High Court in Ikeja over the collapse of a six-story building in the church on September 12, 2014, which led to the death of 116 persons.

The trustees will be arraigned before Justice Lawal Akapo alongside the engineers who constructed the collapsed building.

A statement by the Deputy Director, Public Affairs of the Lagos State Ministry of Justice, Bola Akingbade, confirmed the scheduled arraignment.

It would be recalled that Justice Ibrahim Buba of the Federal High Court in Lagos had dismissed the fundamental human rights enforcement suits filed by the engineers who constructed the collapsed six-storey building to stop their planned trial.

The engineers, Oladele Ogundeji and Akinbela Fatiregun, had filed two separate suits before Justice Buba seeking an order restraining the police from inviting, arresting or prosecuting them over the victims’ death.

The Lagos State Government had set up a Coroner Inquest to unravel what went wrong, and in a verdict delivered on August 7, 2015, Magistrate Oyetade Komolafe, the Coroner, indicted the engineers and recommended them for investigation and prosecution for criminal negligence.

The church building, a guest house, collapsed in September 2014, killing 116 people, many of them South Africans who travelled to Nigeria for the church’s service in Lagos.
The inquiry sat for months and set July 8 for its ruling.

“I could live in Nigeria, but I don’t want you guys to get too used to me, so I’ll just be visiting and spend at most, some months for now,” he revealed in an interview with Showtime.

Buhari In Talks With Igbo Leaders Over Pro-Biafra Protests

IPOB-protesters-with-IPOB-banner

The Federal Government is currently reaching out to some leaders of thought in the South-East to intervene in the growing pro-Biafra protests in that part of the country.

President Muhammadu Buhari has also received the assurances of state governors in the geopolitical zone that the issue has being adequately addressed.

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, said this in an interview on Saturday.

Adesina was responding to a question on whether the President was considering inviting leaders of the protesters for talks or will use South-East governors and other leaders of thought to reach out to them.

The presidential spokesman said the President was concerned about all parts of the country and would always follow due process and the rule of law in tackling any issue.
He said the protests formed part of the agenda of the last Council of State meeting.
He said during a discussion on the matter, a governor from the region assured council members that the issue was being handled.
Adesina said, “Government is in communication with credible leaders of the South-East on the Biafra issue.
“At the last Council of State meeting, one of the governors from the region assured council members that the issue was being looked into.

“The leaders of thought are working already. The President is concerned about every part of the country, but he will always respect due process and rule of law.”
Pro-Biafra supporters have been protesting the continued detention of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.

Jurors In Tears As They Clear Student Of Rape Charges...And Then They Discover Something Shocking!

Jurors In Tears As They Clear Student Of Rape Charges...And Then They Discover Something Shocking!

Olumide Fadayomi, 27, was wrongly accused of rape after
sleeping with the unnamed woman

A jury took only 45 minutes to clear medical student Olumide Fadayomi, 27, of rape.
But several jurors at Sheffield Crown Court broke down in tears when the judge revealed the 'victim' had a history of crying rape.
Judge Patrick Robertshaw launched a stinging attack on the Crown Prosecution Service for making Mr Fadayomi stand trial.
He said: 'The evidence did not, and was never going to, prove rape. The prime overriding consideration in the CPS's decision had been merely that the complainant
wished the case to go ahead.

'It was little short of a craven abdication of responsibility for making an independent and fair-minded assessment of the case.
'It is quite astonishing these decisions are made by those who simply do not have experience of what happens in Crown Court because they never come into Crown Court.

'They sit behind desks and make decisions that result in this sort of trial taking place.'
The judge revealed how 18 months earlier the same woman had made an allegation of rape.
He said the case never reached court because it was 'lacking in credibility', but the accused man committed suicide 'when facing that allegation'.
After failing to have this first 'rapist' brought to court, the woman set about framing Mr Fadayomi, a stranger she met in a nightclub.

The woman claimed Mr Fadayomi attacked her in a house he shared in Walkley, Sheffield.
But a friend, who was with her that evening, told the court the woman danced and kissed Mr Fadayomi, boasting: 'I'm going to have his body tonight.'

Mr Fadayomi told the jury the woman had agreed to sex. He said: 'She never told me to stop and neither did she resist.'
The student, from Nigeria, was doing a biomedical sciences course at the University of East London, but the incident happened in October when he went to Sheffield to do a ten-week music production course during a study break.
After the case Mr Fadayomi recalled how the woman propositioned him by telling him she liked his 'perfume' and that 'she wouldn't mind having me that night'.

They later returned to his house, where they had sex. Mr Fadayomi then gave her £8 for a taxi and she left. He said he went out to buy food at 6am and police were waiting for him on his return.
Mr Fadayomi said of his ordeal: 'My life has been hell for the last seven months. I thought about taking my own life.
'I've not been able to sleep properly since all this happened. Some of my friends shunned me and my parents in Nigeria were heartbroken and scared of what might happen to me.'

Naheed Hussain, Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS South Yorkshire, last night defended the decision to bring the case but said he would conduct a review following the judge's comments 'to see if any lessons can be learned'.
He said: 'The decision to prosecute was taken by a senior lawyer. We were satisfied there was sufficient evidence not only from the complainant but from another witness whose evidence supported that of the complainant.'
The law allows defendants accused of rape to be named, but the government intends to introduce anonymity for alleged rapists until conviction.

President Buhari's Media Aide Shehu Garba Explains Why His Boss Travels Frequently..

President Buhari's Media Aide Shehu Garba Explains Why His Boss Travels Frequently..

Garba Shehu, senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, says President Muhammadu Buhari does not travel for pleasure.

He also said the president travels with his “cook and luggage officer” unlike the former president “who travelled with large delegations”.

Reacting to the criticisms that have trailed the president’s trips abroad, Shehu made reference to how Sani Abacha, former head of state, was “despised for not representing his country abroad”.

He said Buhari was embarking on those journeys in the interest of the country, saying unlike his predecessor who was fond of travelling with a large retinue of aides, Buhari has brought down the number to a “bearable minimum”.

“In the delegations accompanying him abroad, President Buhari has slashed the numbers, bringing them down to a tolerable or the bearable minimum,” Shehu said in an article revealed to The Leadership Newspaper.

“He went to the United Nations General Assembly in September with an unbelievable 32 officials in his delegation. These included his cook, his doctor and luggage officer.

“His predecessor in office went to the same meeting with 150 officials and family members the year before.

“Wherever they are given government accommodation and feeding, members of President Buhari’s entourage receive reduced allowances, thereby saving the government some money.

“All trips have been marked by tight schedules. Meeting after meeting, happening back-to-back morning, afternoon and evening. The president has had to travel overnight for some of these meetings.

Shehu said since he assumed office, the president has visited 13 countries, adding that the trips were not meant for pleasure but to discuss serious issues.

Accusing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of trivialising the president’s foreign trips, Shehu  said: “If President Buhari is successful as a leader, the PDP will be history”.

“There is no reason to be angry with anyone criticising President Buhari for traveling abroad. In politics, even if President Buhari were to bring with him a suitcase full of cash and a pot gold each time he returned from a trip, someone will criticize him, saying that the journey is wasteful,” Shehu said.

“The PDP will kick, knowing that they got 16 years and did nothing with it. Those who didn’t do much during their term of governance will find it instructive to fault whatever the president is doing.

“The visit by any president to another country is the highest act in international relations. It sends out a message that that county is important to the visitor.

“It is not like your usual vacation abroad. Official discussions involving political leaders, the military, the diplomats and at times, business people are held at multi- track levels. In foreign policy you stand on a quick sand of events and you slip up if take a rest or lose focus.

“Governments also know that their achievements at home will be meaningless if they cannot project them abroad. Who or where are the foreign investors, whose hand you are seeking if you can’t travel to meet them? Will they come if they don’t know about the country?

“Now, countries such as France, UK, The U.S are supporting Nigeria with intelligence, weapons and training for our military against Boko Haram and the economic saboteurs in the Delta region.

“President Buhari will definitely make Nigeria great, what the PDP fooled us for 16 years.

“All heads of countries around the world now take Nigeria seriously. His foreign trips are for business, security of the country and bilateral contacts- contacts that get actualised by follow-ups and the love and support a leader enjoys at home and abroad.

“Today the world is in a warm embrace of President Muhammadu Buhari.

“Nigerians should be proud of the attention, love and admiration, importance, respect and investment he is bringing to Nigeria. These trips are not for enjoyment.”

KOGI POWER TUSSLE:- Faleke Sends A Strong Letter To APC

KOGI POWER TUSSLE:- Faleke Sends A Strong Letter To APC

The battle for Kogi government house is hot! The APC deputy governorship candidate, John Faleke, who shared a ticket with the late Prince Abubakar Audu, has again written to the national chairman of the party, John Oyegun, insisting he is the governor-elect and should so be declared.
APC candidate, Audu, died under controversial circumstances between Saturday and Sunday, prompting APC to commence the process of choosing a new flag bearer — as directed by INEC.
In his first letter to INEC on Wednesday, Faleke had said he was the proper beneficiary of the votes that were cast in favour of APC, and urged the commission to declare him governor-elect.
Now in the second letter to APC chairman Oyegun, Faleke said there is danger
if the party follow INEC’s directive of selecting new candidate to inherit APC’s vote in a joined ticket.
Faleke, through his lawyer, Wole said INEC and all parties to the election had already reached a point of no return. He said holding a supplementary primary to produce a candidate for a supplementary election in 91 polling units can only produce a supplementary governor for Kogi state.

Faleke said the total number of outstanding votes in the remaining 91 polling units are not more than 25, 000 and that even if all the registered voters vote for the new candidate, it would mean the new governor would be a governor of 91 polling units only.

He cited section 197(2) (b) of the 1999 Constitution which states that “(2) A candidate for an election to the office of Governor of a State shall be deemed to have been duly elected where there being two or more candidates. (b) He has not less than one-quarter of all the votes cast of at least two-thirds of all the local government areas of the state”.

Faleke also recalled that in 1999, when the governor-elect of Adamawa state, Atiku Abubakar, was made Vice President, INEC ordered a rerun election to produce a fresh governor.

But the PDP insisted that Atiku’s deputy, Boni Haruna, should automatically be made governor.
He said the legal battle surrounding the matter went up to the Supreme Court which ruled in favour of the PDP allowing Mr. Haruna to serve as governor and even winning re-election.

Faleke equally reminded Oyegun of how leading members of the APC in coalition with some “decent forces” in the country, bandying the “doctrine of necessity”, championed the course of then Vice President Goodluck Jonathan to be appointed Acting President when the president at the time, Umaru Yar’adua, became terminally ill.

He said Jonathan thereafter became substantive president for six years
.
“If we could rely on the ‘doctrine of necessity’ and maximally utilize same to make Vice President Goodluck Jonathan the sitting president, it then goes without saying that both INEC and APC must submit themselves to the doctrine of constitutional imperative and /or necessity to allow our client (Faleke) to be governor-elect of Kogi state,” the letter reads.

Faleke and his lawyers said they were “ready and willing” to articulate and defend their position before any organ of the party.

He vowed not to “trade off or compromise his mandate as the governor elect of Kogi state.”

Wande Coal Explains The Rivalry Between Davido and WizKid

wande coal

We all know that Davido and WizKid have had their beef/rivalry/competition or whatever else you want to call it. It came to a boiling point last year when the two went through a period of taking shots at each other on social media.

Right now though it looks like they’ve made up and squashed it all. Wande Coal being a friend to both of them, explained the rivalry between the both of them in an interview with Punch newspaper.

He stressed that both of them are cool but acknowledged that there is some friction. “I have influenced the music of both Wizkid and Davido but the person with whom I went through a lot with and greatly influenced is Wizkid. I don’t think anybody should blame Wizkid for whatever action he takes. I know Wizkid very well and I know that he learns from everything. He is a great kid and I love him a lot. He is my brother and that is why he calls my name in his songs. We bonded. With David, I feel he is a good artiste. In the game called music, there would always be friction but it does not mean that they are not cool with each other. People need to know that music is competitive,”

Just a few days ago as Davido turned 23, WizKid gave him a special shout out on twitter. So yea… all is good… for now.
