Celine Dion’s Brother’s Memorial Service Is Being Held The Day After Her Husband’s Funeral
Celine Dion’s brother died of cancer just days after her husband lost his life to the same disease and the 47-year-old singer is preparing to attend back to back services for the two men later this week.
The funeral of Rene Angelil, who was married to the Think Twice singer for 21 years, will take place at Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal.
Meanwhile a memorial service for her brother Daniel Dion is planned for the following day at the Salon Charles Rajotte in Repentigny, Quebec. Celine’s reps recently denied claims that she was planning to sing her hit Because You Loved Me at Rene’s funeral, telling the New York Post, ‘she’s grieving, she wouldn’t even be able to sing.’
However it’s been revealed that her late husband had already planned his entire funeral before he passed away from throat cancer at home last Thursday on the eve of his 74th birthday.
‘Rene was generous enough to prepare all of this since the last few months with Celine,’
her close friend and stylist, Annie Horth, told People magazine. ‘He didn’t know when it would happen, but he really wanted everything to be already prepared.’
The service will take place at the same venue where the couple who have 14-year-old son, Rene-Charles, and five-year-old twins Eddy and Nelson together tied the knot.
Rene, who discovered Celine when she was 12 and acted as her manager for years, also has three grown up children from a previous relationship – Anne-Marie, Patrick and Jean- Pierre.
A separate funeral service for Daniel, who died last Saturday, is thought to be taking place at a later date, at St-Simon-et-Jude Church in Charlemagne, where he was raised.
