Nigeria’s Government Must Act Fast To Address The Biafra Crisis

niiii

A 21-year old student, by name Nkiruka Anthonia Ikeanyionwu from Adazi Nnukwu Anambra state, was apparently shot during a fierce protest by the Indigenous People of Biafra otherwise known as IPOB.

It was shocking and atrocious.

As expected, the tragic incident was widely condemned by the Pro-Biafra supporters as another attack on their freedom of speech by the Government.
However, it took the intervention of the brother of the deceased to openly clarify that infact: his sister didn’t pledge allegiance to any group. He proceeded to blame the IPOB protesters for the death of his sister.
It is disheartening to realize that some of these violent protests by the Biafra agitators has claimed the lives of many, destroyed properties worth millions, and disrupted economic activities in the country.
We condemn violence.
Violence is unacceptable! Violence is reminiscent of the dark ages! Violence is useless! Violence kills! Violence is an epidemic! Violence results to death! Violence wouldn’t solve anything! Violence will not be tolerated in Nigeria!
A diplomatic solution must be met by the government to tackle this crisis before it escalates beyond control.
The Nigerian Military though has continued to express confidence of containing it, stating frankly that a small fraction of a group of fanatics will not destabilize the peace of the country.
Still, shooting of unarmed protesters is against the law.
Reports had it today, that nine unarmed protesters in Onitsha were shot and killed by the JTF (Joint Task Force) in the state.
Killing of unarmed civilians is barbaric and should not be practiced especially in an advancing country like Nigeria, as violent protests should never be condoned too.
It would come as interest to our esteemed readers that we, on purpose, avoided naming the leader of the IPOB group, who is currently in police custody and awaiting trial, because we are hoping to avoid creating a martyr or giving unnecessary popularity to a fellow who is only interested in the
destruction and poisoning the mind of gullible Nigerians.

Chief-Obafemi-Awolowo--Dr

The Igbos, The Hausas, The Yorubas and Other Tribes have continued to live in peace and harmony and nothing will ever disrupt that trajectory.

We are urging the government of Nigeria to come up with a diplomatic resolution to this impending disaster.

But for our unity, true Nigerians will never be guided by a false ideology to disrupt our common peace.
